Polyudova encountered difficulties in contacting lawyers
The administration of the colony where Krasnodar activist Daria Polyudova is serving her sentence allows only one phone call per week. Polyudova calls her mother weekly and, due to the restrictions, cannot contact her lawyer.
As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, in March 2024, Kuban activist Daria Polyudova, serving a sentence on an extremism case, was transferred from a colony in Kabardino-Balkaria to a pretrial detention center in Volgograd. Several residents of Volgograd, at the request of the activist's mother, gave Polyudova food. In May of the same year, Polyudova was delivered to a colony in Kostroma and transferred to strict conditions of detention. Human rights activists reported that Polyudova was attacked by a prisoner in the colony.
In May 2021, a Moscow court sentenced Polyudova to six years in prison, finding that she justified the activities of Chechen field commanders Shamil Basayev and Aslan Maskhadov. Later, a new case was opened against the activist: according to the FSB, she created a movement with the aim of publicly justifying terrorism and extremism. In December 2022, the court sentenced Polyudova to nine years in prison. On October 19, 2023, the Supreme Court upheld this sentence.
The colony where activist Daria Polyudova is being held has changed the rules for making calls for prisoners. Previously, they could call several numbers per week, if they fit into the 15-minute limit. Thus, Polyudova could talk to her mother, her lawyer, and her friends in one week, dividing 15 minutes into several calls. Now prisoners have the right to only one call per week, reported the human rights project "OVD-Info"*
As a volunteer who corresponds with Polyudova said, the prisoner spends her allotted time on calls talking to her mother, since her father died this year. Because of this, the activist cannot contact her lawyer.
