Security forces rejected the possibility of releasing Gagiev

Aslan Gagiev, a resident of North Ossetia who was sentenced to life imprisonment, remains in custody and will not be able to go to the combat zone, a representative of the Federal Penitentiary Service said.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", in September 2023, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Aslan Gagiev (Dzhako) to life imprisonment. On August 25, it became known that Gagiev wrote a statement asking to send him to the special operation zone. Relatives of the victims in the Gagiev case are worried about their safety due to rumors spreading on Telegram about his release.

Aslan Gagiev is in a penal colony in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and has not been sent to the war zone, a representative of the FSIN department for the region said today. 

"The information has been verified: he is sitting with us and has not gone anywhere. Those who are sentenced to life imprisonment do not go to the SVO," RIA Novosti quotes the department representative as saying.

According to the FSIN, Gagiev is serving his sentence in the Polar Owl penal colony in the village of Kharp. This special regime colony is intended for those sentenced to life imprisonment. 

As of June 2025, Polar Owl holds about 550 prisoners. Those sentenced to life imprisonment spend most of their time in their cells, designed for one or two people, while others are allowed to work - maintain boilers, bake bread, sew clothes, grow vegetables, repair cars or make jewelry from Ural stone. "You can only diversify your leisure time with a book or radio (...) on weekends, inmates are allowed to watch movies on DVD, but only on military topics," the Yamal-Media publication reported on June 16.

Gagiev was previously charged with the murders of Oleg Oziev, deputy prosecutor of the Industrial District of Vladikavkaz, in 2013, and three entrepreneurs: Taimur Kadzaev, Valery Laliev and Alan Torchinov. The accused did not admit that he organized these murders, according to the biography of Aslan Gagiev, published on the "Caucasian Knot".
