Pro-Ukrainian march participants join protesters in central Tbilisi

A march to mark Ukraine's Independence Day took place in Tbilisi today, with participants joining protesters outside the Georgian parliament, where activists have gathered for the 270th day in a row to demand new parliamentary elections.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, on August 23, the 269th day of pro-European protests, activists, as they do every night, blocked Rustaveli Avenue in the center of Tbilisi.

Since November 28, 2024, supporters of European integration have been going to Tbilisi for daily rallies near the Georgian parliament and blocking traffic on Rustaveli Avenue, demanding the release of all arrested demonstrators and the appointment of new parliamentary elections.

A march was held in Tbilisi on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day. Demonstrators gathered at the statue of Taras Shevchenko, after which they went on a procession through the streets of the city. Afterwards, the marchers joined the traditional demonstration on Rustaveli Avenue, where daily protests have been held for the 270th day in a row demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners, Publika reported.

On November 28, 2024, the European Parliament refused to recognize the results of the parliamentary elections in Georgia and called for sanctions against the leaders of the Georgian Dream. On the same day, the Prime Minister announced that Georgia would refuse to negotiate accession to the European Union by the end of 2028. Following this statement, protests began in the country.
