The prosecutor requested six years in prison for Ivan Gel

The state prosecutor demanded that the head of the Ilovlinsky district, accused in the case of the death of a subordinate, be sentenced to six years in prison. The lawyer told the court that the official was innocent.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, the head of the Ilovlinsky district, Ivan Gel, was charged in a criminal case of abuse of office causing grave consequences (Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigation, he sent administration employees who were not authorized to do this work to put out the fire, after which 52-year-old Alexander Pereyarin died from burns and three of his colleagues were injured. In September 2024, the case was sent to court.

On July 31, the Ilovlinsky District Court held debates on the case of Ivan Gel, during which a representative of the prosecutor's office demanded that the official be sentenced to six years in a general regime penal colony, Vysota 102 reports.

The daughter of the deceased Alexander Pereyarin asked the court to punish Gel "to the fullest extent of the law" and explained that her father's death was "a terrible shock for the whole family."

In turn, Gel's lawyer Mikhail Rasstrygin stated that on that day his client was not the deceased's boss, and therefore his orders could be ignored. He called the incident an accident and asked to acquit the accused, the agency writes.

Pereyarin's family representative Yuri Bukayev said that he asked Ivan Gel several questions. "Does he repent, is he ready to compensate for the damage, does he want to apologize. On the advice of his lawyer, he refused to answer them," he told V1.ru, noting that "we agree with the position of the state prosecution."

According to Bukayev, Ivan Gel did not participate in the debate and gave the floor to his lawyer Mikhail Rastrygin, the publication reports.

Recall that on November 17, 2024, residents of the village of Ilovlya, in an appeal to the Prosecutor General and the head of the Presidential Directorate for Domestic Policy, stated that Ivan Gel was illegally in office, since his powers expired on November 4. The district authorities reported that candidates for the position would be selected by a selection committee, and the district Duma deputies would elect him. This contradicted the district charter, according to which the head is elected by universal suffrage.

Earlier, Ilovlya residents held a meeting at which they recorded a video message to the chairman of the Investigative Committee with a complaint about the lack of transparency in the elections of the district head. They pointed out that the term of office of the district head had expired, but residents were not properly informed and within the established time frame of any information about his re-election or reappointment.

Local residents believe that "big people at the federal and regional levels are behind Ivan Gel," Yevgeny Frolov, a resident of the district, told the "Caucasian Knot" in December 2024. "We hope that the court finds him guilty of the death of a person in a fire - and then his tenure as head of the district will be simply blatantly illegal. We are waiting for the court's verdict, since there is no hope for the deputies of the district Duma," he said.
