Serenko faces new charges after arrest
A deputy of the Volgograd Regional Duma wrote a statement against the arrested political scientist Mikhail Serenko, accusing him of slander. The Volgograd publication published an appeal from the SVO fighters, who considered one of the publications in the Telegram channel, of which the investigation accuses Serenko, to be a discrediting of the armed forces.
As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, political scientist, former deputy of the Volgograd City Duma Mikhail Serenko wasdetained on July 22 in a case of public justification of Nazism and extortion. On July 24, the court arrested him until September 18, the selection of a preventive measurewas held behind closed doors. Mikhail Serenko, arrested in Volgograd on charges of rehabilitating Nazism, was never an oppositionist and never criticized the government, the journalist pointed out. Repressive laws allow for the organization of criminal prosecution of any person, the political scientist objected.
The investigation believes that the administrator and author of the "Island of Freedom" channel published materials with incriminating information about a Volgograd resident and demanded money from him "to stop distributing defamatory publications." The detainee is charged with publicly justifying Nazism in connection with publications from March 2025. A psychological and linguistic examination concluded that the texts contain "a set of signs of rehabilitation of Nazism, including in the form of denial of the facts established by the verdict of the International Military Tribunal."
Aleksey Loginov, a deputy of the Volgograd Regional Duma from the Liberal Democratic Party, filed a complaint with the Investigative Committee in connection with the publication in the Telegram channel "Island of Freedom". "Today I decided to write a statement to the Investigative Committee in the Central District, since false information was also spread about me, insulting my honor and dignity. In turn, I also call on all those who suffered from the actions of this channel to come and write a statement," he said in a video published on his Telegram channel RIAloginov.
According to the publication "Height 102", a number of the deputy's colleagues, about whom posts appeared on Serenko's channel, also intended to write a statement.
The publication also published a video recorded by SVO members, in which they expressed indignation in connection with the publications in the Telegram channel "Island of Freedom" about former deputy of the Volgograd Regional Duma Alexander Osipov and his son and considered the information posted to be discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. They also invited Serenko "to the front line"
