Mass events banned in North Ossetia

The head of North Ossetia, Sergei Menyailo, has imposed a ban on mass events and tightened security measures in the republic due to the threat of an assassination attempt on the military.

The decree signed today by the head of the region prescribes the suspension of mass public events throughout the republic.

In addition, the document prohibits photo and video filming of military facilities, critical infrastructure, and drone crash sites. The same decree introduces additional security measures: enhanced inspection of transit vehicles and transported goods, as well as personal searches of citizens, according to a message published today by the official Telegram channel of the government of North Ossetia.

The publication notes that the republican operational headquarters received information about “a threat of an attempt on the lives of servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces and their relatives during an unauthorized action initiated by Ukrainian special services” in Vladikavkaz. The authorities also called on residents of Vladikavkaz “to refrain from visiting places with large crowds of people,” citing information about the threat of drone attacks.

On the evening of July 21, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Ossetia published a warning on its official Telegram channel about responsibility for participating in unauthorized actions. The agency called on citizens “not to succumb to provocations” and not to participate in such events, noting that the police will “immediately suppress” them.

"Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote that in mid-May, a drone alert regime was introduced in North Ossetia, and several times, due to the threat of drone attacks, the arrival and departure of flights at the Vladikavkaz airport was suspended. On April 9, Menyailo said that during the attack in the Mozdok region, 15 UAVs were shot down.
