Daily protests continue in Tbilisi amid Georgian Dream election concerts

Supporters of Georgia's European integration have blocked Rustaveli Avenue near the parliament building for the 233rd day in a row. Opposition members of the Tbilisi City Council have announced that they will not participate in the municipal elections on October 4, ahead of which the Georgian Dream is organizing concerts.

As "Caucasian Knot" wrote, protesters in Tbilisi have been holding daily rallies in front of the Georgian Parliament since November 28, 2024, and have been blocking traffic along Rustaveli Avenue, demanding the release of all arrested supporters of European integration and the appointment of new parliamentary elections.

Today, on the 233rd day of continuous protests, participants in pro-European protests again blocked traffic along Rustaveli Avenue in front of the Georgian Parliament building, Publika reports.

Opposition deputies of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Council) issued a joint statement today, refusing to participate in the municipal elections scheduled for October 4.

“We are committed to the goals that have been achieved in 233 days in the history of Georgia. We confirm that we recognize only new, free, fair parliamentary elections and refuse to participate in the so-called local elections, which in fact are a rigged and criminal process. [...] Today, together with the Georgian people, we confront the regime of lawlessness, injustice and violence. [...] We recognize only free and fair parliamentary elections!” the publication quotes the text of the manifesto.

“Georgian Dream” has begun organizing “free” concerts ahead of the elections, one of which is taking place today at the Anaklia resort.

“Georgian Dream” has begun its election campaign, and everyone knows that people love spectacles and entertainment. And the party has made a simple decision – to hold concerts that people perceive as free, forgetting that their taxes were spent on them. Today, the forgotten Anaklia hosted the Georgian band “Ursa”, which does not criticize the government and receives budget money for performances from municipalities and the Ministry of Culture. The whole of Zugdidi came to Anaklia, many dressed up “for going out”, no “freedom for political prisoners” or any reminders of what is happening in the country”, writes the Telegram channel Tbilisi_life.
