Activities of Baptist religious association banned in Kurganinsk
The court banned the activities of the “International Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists Church Kurganinsk” religious association for its illegal missionary activities.
The Fourth Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction has upheld the decision of the lower instance court to ban the activities of the House of Prayer of the “International Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists Church Kurganinsk” religious association.
At a request of the Kurganinsky District Prosecutor’s Office, the activities of the House of Prayer of the “International Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists Church Kurganinsk” religious association have been suspended. The reason for filing the lawsuit was unsanctioned missionary activities, in which about 1500 people, including minors, took part, the “Kuban 24” portal reported on May 18.
According to the information of the Kurganinsky District Prosecutor’s Office, the “International Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists Church Kurganinsk” religious association failed to notify the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Department for the Krasnodar Territory about its activities and failed to undergo mandatory registration. Moreover, as the Kurganinsky District Prosecutor’s Office claims, the “International Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists Church Kurganinsk” religious association was carrying put missionary activities in violation of the requirements of the Russian laws on freedom of conscience and religion, the “Kommersant” reports.
As a result, the Kurganinsky District Court decided to suspend the activities of the House of Prayer of the “International Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists Church Kurganinsk” religious association. The court’s decision has been upheld by the court of appeal and then by the cassation court. At present, the religious association’s building has been sealed, and entry to it is prohibited.
