Relatives alarmed by health state of three Kuban pensioners in SIZO

Pensioners Nikolai Nabiev, Sergey Kuzovenko, and Marina Zakharova, accused of creating an illegal armed formation (IAF), complain about their health problems in a SIZO (pre-trial prison).

According to the source’s information, the case against the pensioners has been fabricated and built “only on provocations” by FSB officers, who were buying alcoholic beverages and filming two pensioners during feasts for a year.

The pensioners have been kept at the SIZO for more than two years. The defendants plead not guilty, stating that they were trying to fight corruption in government bodies. The “Help for Political Prisoners” movement regularly sends money transfers to the accounts of Nikolai Nabiev, Sergey Kuzovenko, and Marina Zakharova in the system of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) so that they can buy food and other necessary items while in staying in custody.

Irina, an acquaintance of the defendants, believes that the charges are fabricated. The woman expresses her indignation about the fact that her friends “are being taken to court in handcuffs, like dangerous criminals.” According to the Irina’s words, Nikolai Nabiev, Sergey Kuzovenko, and Marina Zakharova are being supported by many of their acquaintances not only in Russia, but also in other post-Soviet countries.

“In fact, Nikolai Nabiev, Sergey Kuzovenko, and Marina Zakharova are under trial, because they do not want to forget the country in which they were born and miss it,” the defendants’ friend claimed.

Relatives of the accused pensioners have noted that they stay in touch with the help of advocates. The defendants are not allowed to be visited, and the SIZO administration explains the refusal of visits by the strictness of the regime and the severity of the charges. “All letters are being checked and read, and sometimes the letters are not handed over to the defendants ... I worry about my father very much,” claimed a daughter of one of the defendants.

The advocates have added that during the visits of their clients, because of their age, they complain about their health state, which is rapidly deteriorating in prison conditions.
