Marina Yandieva leaves Russia after fleeing domestic violence in Ingushetia

Marina Yandieva, a native of Ingushetia, who fled domestic violence, is safe outside Russia, human rights defenders report.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that relatives of 28-year-old Marina Yandieva, who fled domestic violence, threatened to kill human rights defender and lawyer Magomed Alamov, accusing him of organizing the young woman’s escape. Magomed Alamov was not aware of the Marina Yandieva’s situation, but only gave her a lift, reports the “Team Against Torture” (TaT)*. According to the Marina Yandieva’s story, in 2016, she tried to escape to Moscow, but she was tracked down, beaten, and returned home. After that, Marina Yandieva lived in isolation and without means of communication for three years, while her relatives fabricated a certificate about her mental disorder and threatened her with an “honour killing.”

“I ask my family and the law enforcement authorities not to waste their time on my persecution in the future. I am safe, everything is fine with me, and I feel as happy as probably never before,” the young woman said in a video posted on Telegram channel of the “SK SOS Crisis Group”**.

The law enforcement bodies have still not responded to threats against Magomed Alamov, the “SK SOS Crisis Group”*** reports.

The threats against Magomed Alamov stopped coming, but he had to quit his job for safety reasons. Marina Yandieva’s relatives did not apologize to the lawyer and did not take back their threatening statements.
