Tskhovrebov and Djabiev’s case brought to Supreme Court of South Ossetia

A case on an attempt on the life of Igor Naniev, Minister of Internal Affairs of South Ossetia, in which Nikolai Tskhovrebov and Inal Djabiev, who died after an interrogation at a police station, are involved as defendants, has been sent to the Supreme Court (SC) of South Ossetia, the General Prosecutor’s Office of the republic reports today.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in February, Nikolai Tskhovrebov, a resident of South Ossetia, who in August 2020 was detained together with Inal Djabiev, was charged with an attempt on the life of Interior Minister Igor Naniev. A mother of Nikolai Tskhovrebov considered the accusations ungrounded. Journalist Ruslan Totrov associates the intensification of the investigation into the case with an attempt by the authorities to hide the history of torture of the defendants.

In August 2020, Inal Djabiev died after being interrogated at a police station in a case on an attempt on the life of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Nikolai Tskhovrebov, who was detained together with Inal Djabiev, also complained about torture. Eight policemen were detained and arrested in a case on the Inal Djabiev’s death, and Andrei Tskhovrebov, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, was dismissed.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of South Ossetia approved the indictment in the case on the attempt on the life of Interior Minister Igor Naniev and sent it to the Supreme Court of South Ossetia, the press service for the General Prosecutor’s Office reports today.

Nikolai Tskhovrebov and Inal Djabiev are accused of the attempt on the Igor Naniev’s life, the General Prosecutor’s Office reports on its official website.

“As part of the investigation into the criminal case, the investigating body [...] issued a resolution to terminate the criminal prosecution against defendant I.S. Djabiev in connection with his death. Oksana Sotieva, a widow of Inal Djabiev and his legal representative, objected against the termination of the criminal case on the above ground. In order to rehabilitate her deceased spouse, the woman filed a motion to re-send the criminal case to the court for the consideration on a general basis,” the General Prosecutor’s Office reports.
