Karabakh residents accuse Azerbaijani armed forces of a shelling attack on a village

The Azerbaijani armed forces shelled the Tagavard village, which territory is split by the demarcation line after the war. This was reported by Sevak Khachatryan, the deputy head of the village. Residents of the Tagavard community tried to protest and block the road along which the Azerbaijani military convoys were moving.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that under the terms of the ceasefire agreement signed in the autumn of 2020, a part of the Karabakh village of Tagavard came under the control of Azerbaijan. Before the 2020 war, more than 1300 people lived in the Tagavard village, and their main activities included agriculture and animal husbandry.

Shots towards the Tagavard village have been fired this morning, and none of the villagers has been injured.

After the shelling attack, local residents gathered in the neighbouring village of Krasny Bazar and came out onto the main road along which military convoys of Azerbaijani soldiers, accompanied by peacekeepers, were passing towards the city of Shusha.

According to Narek Atayan, the head of the rural community, the local residents wanted to talk to the Russian peacekeepers and urge them to influence the behaviour of the Azerbaijani soldiers. The villagers claim that when the Azerbaijani military convoy was passing through the Krasny Bazar village, they heard insults addressed to them and voiced by the Azerbaijani soldiers.

According to the “Sputnik Armenia”, “Azerbaijanis threatened to shell the village if the Armenian military personnel did not lower the Karabakh flag placed in front of their positions” in the village of Tagavard.

The local residents who gathered in the Krasny Bazar village wanted to “stop the military convoy, because the enemy had opened fire in the direction of Tagavard earlier,” the Armenian “A1plus” TV Company reports.
