Aliev reports return of about 1600 bodies of perished militaries to Yerevan

At his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev stated that Baku had returned to Armenia all the prisoners of war (POWs) captured during the last autumn aggravation of the Karabakh conflict, as well as about 1600 bodies of dead Armenian military servicemen.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 5, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group called on Azerbaijan to complete the return of the Armenian POWs captured in Nagorno-Karabakh back to their homeland. On April 28, the European Union (EU) also drew attention to the problem of returning POWs; in its statement, the EU called on Baku to provide information about the Armenian POWs requested by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and to speed up their return to homeland.

On May 10, at his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev said that Baku had handed over to Yerevan all the militaries who had been kept in captivity after the last autumn aggravation of the Karabakh conflict, the "oxu.az" writes.

"After the hostilities, we handed over all the POWs kept by us after the war. After the end of hostilities, during these six months, we found, together with peacemakers and representatives of the Armenian party, about 1600 bodies of perished Armenian military servicemen, which were handed over to the Armenian party," the TASS quotes President Aliev as saying.
