Witnesses testify innocence of Ingush activist Magomed Khamkhoev

In March 2019, in Magas, Magomed Khamkhoev, an Ingush activist, did not incite protesters to resist "Rosgvardia" (Russian National Guard) agents, 15 defence witnesses told the court on February 8.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomed Khamkhoev, accused under the case of using violence against law enforcers, is under arrest since April 5, 2019.

Khamkhoev became the first activist charged not only with an attack on law enforcers, but also with incitement to such attacks, Fatima Urusova, an advocate, has noted. In September 2020, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized Khamkhoev to be a political prisoner.

Fifteen participants in the above unsanctioned rally in Magas told the court that Khamkhoev did not incite anyone to resist "Rosgvardia" agents at the rally, the advocate has stated, adding that Khamkhoev has no complaints about the state of his health and custody conditions at the SIZO (pre-trial prison). "He is a patient and courageous person," the advocate has emphasized.
