Demonstrative feudists' reconciliation held in Nozhai-Yurt District of Chechnya

The "Grozny" ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Company) has shown a report about how relatives of a resident of the village of Gordali, who died in a road accident, had pardoned the driver who killed him. Instagram users pointed to the archaic nature of the blood feud custom.

In Gordali, Nozhai-Yurt District of Chechnya, reconciliation took place of the two families who had been at war because of the road accident, in which Khamid Takhtabaev, a local resident, perished. During the reconciliation ceremony, another figurant of the road accident, Mamed Orzamiev, came, together with the elders, relatives and clergymen from the Muftiate, to the suffered party to ask to forgive him.

Ansar Khetiev, Deputy Mufti of Chechnya, told the audience that the republic's authorities are seeking to eradicate the blood feud custom.

In his comment to the report by the "Grozny" ChGTRK the Instagram user, umalat_bitcoin, questioned the efficiency of Chechen authorities' efforts. "How can you eradicate the blood feud when it exists in Islam? Only non-Muslims can eradicate it," he wrote. Other users pointed out the archaic nature of the blood feud custom. "It's so interesting with the Chechens – they look like living in the Mesolithic era," said the user luiza1rusalina.
