Azerbaijan claims Armenia's direct interference into armed conflict

The territories occupied by the Azerbaijani militaries were shelled by Armenia, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated. The Armenian command is trying to defend the strategically important Lachin Corridor and provokes return fire in order to involve Russia in the conflict, Telman Abilov, a military expert, believes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 23, the President of Azerbaijan announced the restoration of control over 13 dwelling settlements, including those situated on the border with Armenia.

Yerevan is provoking Azerbaijan to retaliate against the territory of Armenia, the Azerbaijani MoD has stated.

The Azerbaijani Army has fully restored control over the Zangilan District and partially over the Gubadly one; and thus has reached the borders of Armenia in the southern direction, said Telman Abilov, the head of the NGO "Military Officers".

The expert agrees with the Azerbaijani MoD that the shelling from the territory of the Goris District of Armenia has another goal – to provoke Azerbaijan to return fire and thereby obtain the basis for turning to Russia for military support.
