Chechen entrepreneurs claim tight control over compliance with mask regime

In Chechnya, employees of various public institutions monitor compliance with the mask regime in shops and catering outlets, entrepreneurs report. According to them, surveillance is being conducted even from parked cars.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July, the authorities of Chechnya have tightened measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection. Meanwhile, Ramzan Kadyrov and his associates did not wear masks while participating in public events. Some of the Chechen residents treat with irony the new rules requiring wearing masks in restaurants.

On August 11, Chechen entrepreneurs, cafe and shop owners, reported that various public institutions strictly controlled the compliance with the mask regime.

Adam, an owner of a small grocery store, said that the control mainly affected large supermarkets.

Timur, a resident of Grozny, noted that when sellers remind buyers about the need to wear masks, the buyers sometimes express their indignation in response.

Residents of Chechnya repeatedly criticized officials for double standards concerning the compliance with the quarantine regime. So, on June 6, the leader of Chechnya and other officials prayed in a mosque without masks, despite the strict requirements to wear masks for the rest of the believers.
