Chechnya: resettlers from dilapidated housing complain about poor repairs in new houses

The residents of new houses, who have moved there from the landslide zone of the Nozhai-Yurt District, said that after moving in, they now have to eliminate the results of poor-quality repairs, while the school and hospital are located outside the new settlement.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in March 2019, the Chechen Ministry of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities reported that 1700 families would be resettled from the landslide zones in Chechnya by the end of 2019, while overall 4000 families needed resettling.

In total 22 new private houses were built in a new settlement in the outskirt of Gudermes for residents of emergency houses located in the landslide zone of the Nozhai-Yurt District of Chechnya. "172 people became residents of the new settlement," an official from the Gudermes district administration told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Residents of the new houses in Gudermes have complained about the remoteness of educational and social institutions, as well as about the poor quality of their new houses.

"The houses are on the flat ground; there's no threat of landslides, mudslides or other troubles. There's no need to constantly repair something and be afraid that at any moment something may collapse. Conditions are also better than they were in my old house. The only drawback is the remoteness of the school, hospital, administration and everything else," a resident of the new settlement told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He also noted that there are questions to the quality of internal works; and dampness is felt in the rooms. "Nothing to do, we'll gradually eliminate the defects," the settler has added.
