Gadjiev's colleagues call for support of online campaign in his defence

The public interest in the case of arrested Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev is quite high, note participants in a series of pickets in Makhachkala. According to them, for sympathizers of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a support campaign on social networks can become an alternative to participating in street actions of protest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that for more than a month, every week, in Makhachkala, at the intersection of Gamzatov and Dakhadaev Streets, activists have been holding a series of solo pickets with the demand to stop the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, is under arrest since June 2019 under the case of financing terrorism. Human rights defenders treat his case as a threat to all journalists in Russia.

"In society, the interest in the Abdulmumin Gadjiev's case remains at a fairly good level. People are aware of the situation and are ready to join his supporters," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Draft" (Chernovik).

The activists will continue holding solo pickets until the demand for the release of Abdulmumin Gadjiev is fulfilled, Magomed Magomedov reports.

According to Idris Yusupov, another participant of the protest action, his support group organized an online picket format for the people who could not attend offline actions in defence of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. "This is just a chance for any person, who cannot attend a picket, but wants to support sympathizers on the Internet, to take part in the action," Idris Yusupov explained.

The online campaign in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev is being held in various social networks and messengers under hashtags: #FreedomAbdulmumin, #FreedomTambiev, #FreedomRizvanov, and #virtual picket.
