War veterans tell about social payments from Azerbaijani authorities

Over 400 war veterans have received benefits for Victory Day, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labour has reported. Some veterans have called the help from the state sufficient; others have drawn attention to the authorities' differentiated approach to solving veterans' problems.

The traditional solemn ceremony dedicated to the Victory Day was held this morning at the monument to the Twice Hero of the Soviet Union Azi Aslanov; Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev met with a group of war veterans, the "Azertadj" State News Agency has reported. In parallel, another event with the participation of veterans, government officials, law enforcement bodies, diplomatic missions of CIS countries, public and schoolchildren was held at the "Mass Grave" Memorial Complex in the Narimanov District of Baku.

Before the event, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent communicated with the war veterans who arrived at the memorial accompanied by their relatives and members of the District Veterans' Council.

The 97-year-old Mamed Mirzaliev said that during the war he served in the state security bodies and accompanied the military products sent to the front. "Now I get a civil servant's pension in the amount of 800 manats (about 480 US dollars). Besides, every year by the Victory Day, we are paid 1000 manats (about 600 US dollars) of benefit. So, I have enough for my living," the veteran said.

Gumbat Aliev, another veteran, said that he fought in Northern Caucasus and was seriously wounded. According to his story, he is satisfied with his pension and benefits for paying for utilities. "Everything is fine," he said. "But there are those who have already received two apartments and cars, but they gave nothing to me."
