Chechen MIA reports decrease in number of militants killed in Q1 2019

In Chechnya, in January-March this year, one alleged member of the armed underground was killed, whereas in the same period of 2018, there were six of them, an official of the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has informed, thus, confirming the data of the "Caucasian Knot" about the number of alleged members of the armed underground killed during these periods.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 28, the Chechen MIA reported that at night on January 26, the law enforcers' post, located in the outskirt of the dwelling settlement of Sernovodskoye, was attacked; and as a result of the attack, an alleged member of the armed underground was killed and two policemen were wounded. The casualty was identified as a 24-year-old resident of Ingushetia, Mansur Beltoev. In the first quarter of 2019, no information was received about any other killed members of illegal armed formations (IAFs).

According to the calculations of the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources, at least eight persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Chechnya in the first quarter of 2018, including six alleged IAF members.

"In January-March [2019], in the course of special and operational-preventive actions in the territory of Chechnya, law enforcers liquidated one IAF member and detained three alleged accomplices ... For the same period last year, six militants were liquidated in the republic, and six alleged accomplices were detained," a source from the Chechen MIA told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on April 24.
