Local resident dies in accident

An armoured vehicle with Russian military men ran into a Gazel minibus in the southeast of Chechnya on 4 October, an eyewitness of the accident reported.

The accident occurred on a road near Novye Atagi, Shali district.

"A Russian armoured personnel carrier rammed into a passenger Gazel on the outskirts of Novye Atagi in the afternoon yesterday. The place was at once sealed off," said Aslanbek, 27, resident in Achkhoi-Martan. "The minibus driver — people say his surname was Janbekov or Jambekov — died on the spot. Another three or four people sustained serious wounds and injuries."

A source in the republican Internal Affairs Ministry said an investigation had been launched.
