Attacks in Chechnya

A group of rebels fired a grenade launcher and automatic weapons at a military Ural truck with servicemen from the local military commandant's office near Verkhatoi (Oktiabrskoye), Vedeno district, yesterday evening. Two military men were wounded, a source with the republican military commandant's office told Caucasian Knot.

Military men blocked a group of 15 rebels near Eshilkhatoi, Vedeno district, Radio Liberty says. Three servicemen of the Internal Affairs Ministry's interior troops and two servicemen of the Vostok ("East") battalion sustained wounds in the skirmish.

The separatist website Kavkaz-Center reports three Russian soldiers were killed as a result of an armoured personnel carrier blown up by a group of rebels two kilometres away from Dyshne-Vedeno on 14 August.

Rebels attacked a Russian military column between Eshilkhatoi and Vedeno on 15 August, according to the website. They destroyed a truck and killed five servicemen, wounding at least 12.

A group of rebels engaged Russian military men in the morning on 16 August. Four federal servicemen were killed, according to the separatists. Two rebels were slightly wounded.

Russian military materiel is reported to have been blown up another two times on the same day resulting in five Russian soldiers killed.
