One man killed in shootout in Dagestan

A suspected militant has been killed in a suburb of Makhachkala, while policemen tried to detain him, a source reports.

According to the source, the man opened fire at the policemen.

The shootout occurred when the policemen tried to stop a car to check the driver's documents, the RIA "Novosti" reports with reference to a source from the law enforcement agencies of Dagestan.

The victim has been preliminary identified as a member of the Makhachkala subversive and terrorist grouping, the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports.

According to the Dagestani MIA, no policemen or civilians were injured in the shootout.
