Georgian MIA verifying how Yuri Luzhkov entered country

Former Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov is in Georgia, and he visits tourist attractions together with his wife Elena Baturina. Public activists of Georgia express their indignation about the fact that no sanctions were imposed on Yuri Luzhkov in accordance with the Law "On the Occupied Territories" in force in the country.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that being the Mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov visited Abkhazia and South Ossetia and provided active assistance to those regions.

The Georgian Law "On the Occupied Territories" provides for the special legal regime within the territory of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. According to the Law, foreign citizens who have visited Abkhazia and South Ossetia without the permission of Tbilisi officials will not be able to enter the territory of Georgia for any purpose of stay.

Yuri Luzhkov was able to enter Georgia without any obstacles, since his documents were in order and border guards had no formal reason to refuse him in entry to the country. This was reported by Shalva Khutsishvili, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs (MIA). According to Shalva Khutsishvili, the Georgian MIA will conduct additional investigation into the question, since the Yuri Luzhkov's presence in the country has angered the Georgian public activists, the "Georgia Online" reports.

The former Moscow Mayor himself has told that he came to Tbilisi from Armenia four days ago as a tourist and visited a number of tourist attractions. According to him, when he entered Georgia, border guards did not ask him any questions.

"I am aware of the law on occupation. However, I believe that everything what happened in the past, all the disagreements, should remain in the past," said Yuri Luzhkov as quoted by the "News Georgia" with reference to the "Georgian Public Broadcaster".
