In Vladivostok, athlete from Dagestan sentenced to ten years in prison for extortion

On October 12, in Vladivostok, Bagama Nikabagamaev, world champion in pankration, a native of Dagestan, was found by the court guilty of extortion and sentenced to ten years of imprisonment and a fine.

The court has revealed that the athlete was extorting 6.5 million roubles from two residents of Vladivostok. During the meeting at a café, he got from one of the victims 100,000 roubles, and after that he was detained by law enforcers, reports today the website of the Prosecutor's Office for the PrimorskyTerritory.

After his detention in 2013, Bagama Nikabagamaev spent six months in a SIZO (pre-trial prison), then he was released under house arrest, and later he was again placed into the SIZO. In the course of the investigation, the athlete asked to translate the case materials into his native language (or one of the ethnic groups of Dagestan), and then he made a decision to change his surname. According to law enforcers, all the above had the aim to delay the trial, the "VL.ru" reports.

The athlete was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 roubles.
