Azerbaijani rights defender Nazir Guliev dies in road accident

In the evening on August 19, Nazir Guliev, the head of the organization "World of Law" got into a road accident in the village of Alinazarli, together with his wife and a child.

The car turned over, killing Nazir, while his family members remained safe and sound, the “Haqqin.az” reports.

Recently, Guliev headed the "World of Law", engaged in legal education, and was also the chairman of the Alliance of NGOs for Protection of Children’s Rights, the APA reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2014 Nazir Guliev, being then a member of the committee to monitor jails at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice (MoJ), raised the issue of non-admission of observers to the oppositionist Ilgar Mamedov and human rights activist Leyla Yunus, who had been prosecuted in Azerbaijan.
