Resident of Dagestan convicted for attempt to join IS

The North-Caucasian District Military Court has sentenced Sharafutdin Vagidov, a resident of Dagestan, who tried to join the terrorist grouping "Islamic State" (IS), to two years in colony.

According to the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory, Vagidov, aiming to join the IS (recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia, whose activities are banned by a court decision), had planned to go to Syria. For this purpose, he came to Turkey, where he was detained on December 2, 2015.

Later, Vagidov was extradited to Russia. The sentence has not yet entered into force, the TASS reports today.

Sharafutdin Vagidov was found guilty of preparing for participation in a terrorist organization. Taking into account the full recognition of guilt and remorse, the court sentenced him to two years in a general security colony, the "Interfax-South" reports.
