Kadyrov refuses to meet HRC members

The head of Chechnya has refused to meet the delegation of the Russian Presidential Human Rights Council (HRC) on June 2, if Igor Kalyapin is present there. Mikhail Fedotov, the head of the delegation, has confirmed his intention to visit Chechnya today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that from May 30 to June 9 The HRC delegation, including Igor Kalyapin, who is also the head of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) is visiting the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). On June 1-2, the delegation had planned to visit Chechnya.

Officially, Kadyrov's position has not been confirmed, the "Novaya Gazeta" reports, while the "Echo Moskvy" radio informs that his refusal has to do with his conflict with Kalyapin.

On March 16 this year, Igor Kalyapin, a HRC member, was beaten up. The attack took place near the "Grozny City" Hotel, from where he ousted just before that. Igor Kalyapin said then that he was evicted from the hotel because of his criticism of the Chechen police and Kadyrov.
