On May 23-29, 2016, eight persons were killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of May 23-29, 2016, eight persons were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. No wounded were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

All eight victims were suspected members of armed underground. Of them, three were killed in Dagestan, and five in Ingushetia.

Attacks on law enforcers

On May 24, several militants shelled and blew up a rebroadcasting tower near the village of Goor in the Shamil District of Dagestan. They also opened fire on policemen who arrived in an armoured vehicle. None of the law enforcers was injured. Militants fled in forested mountainous terrain.

In the morning of May 26, in the village of Kasumkent of the Suleiman-Stalsky District of Dagestan, law enforcers tried to stop a suspicious man to inspect his documents, but he opened fire on them. He was killed by return fire. The suspicious man was identified as Kamaldin Kazimagomedov, a 26-year-old resident of the village of Ashagastal. He was on the federal wanted list as a member of the "Southern" grouping of militants.

On May 28, in the Derbent District, between the villages of Rukel and Mitagi-Kazmalyar, law enforcers encountered a group of militants who opened fire on them. Both members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) were killed by return fire. They were identified as Abutdin Khanmagomedov, the suspected leader of a grouping of militants who sworn allegiance the "Islamic State" (IS), and his accomplice Radjab Ismailov.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On May 26, counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in the city of Nazran and one of the villages of the Malgobek District of Ingushetia. According to the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), militants rendered armed resistance. Five militants were killed, and three others were detained. Khizyr Galaev, who was on the federal wanted list, was killed in Malgobek, and Usman and Zurab Tsoloev were killed during the armed clash in Nazran. Their bodies were given out to their relatives for burial.

Detentions

On May 21, in the village of Ekazhevo of the Nazran District of Ingushetia, in the house of a staff member of the patrol-and-post service (known as PPS) of the Department for Transport for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), law enforcers seized an improvised hand grenade, two Kalashnikov submachine guns, and several pistols. The man suspected of illegal possession of firearms and explosives was detained. According to investigators, he was involved in a group of Ingush residents detained on suspicion of connections with the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS).

Disappearance

On May 25, Kamaludin Djakhbarov, a resident of the village of Novy Agachaul of the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan, disappeared. He was engaged in cargo transportations, and on May 25, he made two trips from Makhachkala to Kaspiysk. After that, he stopped answering the calls of his relatives. His car was later found in Kaspiysk. More than a month ago, his brother Shamil Djakhbarov disappeared under unclear circumstances. The police suspect him of assaulting a checkpoint of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) on April 14.
