OSCE Minsk Group offers to organize meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents
The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan shall meet. This was stated by co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. According to them, the main objectives of the meeting shall be the enhancement of the ceasefire and the search for ways to build confidence.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night of April 2, the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone was escalated. The parties to the conflict were engaged in combat actions with the use of tanks, multiple launch rocket systems, and aircrafts, which resulted in a large number of victims. On April 5, the sides to the conflict declared a truce; however, they periodically accuse each other of violation of agreements on ceasefire.
"Against the background of recent violence, as well as the reduction of tension on the border, we believe that it is time for the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan to meet," stated the co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
The Co-Chairs have also noted that the Foreign Ministers of their countries are ready to facilitate the organization of such a meeting next week in Vienna.
"The main objective of the Presidents shall be to enhance the ceasefire and to find ways to build confidence, and that shall help to resume the negotiating process and to discuss the main principles of the settlement of the conflict," announces the statement of the Co-Chairs published on the official website of the OSCE Minsk Group.
The Co-Chairs have also emphasized that no success can be achieved in the negotiation process in terms of violence, and no peace can be reached without negotiations. "We insist that the conflict cannot be resolved by military means," the Co-Chairs have stressed.
