"EcoWatch": gas supply stopped to Novorossiysk protesters
In the evening on May 6, those residents of Novorossiysk, who protested against the construction of a quarry in a close vicinity to their houses, were left without gas supply. Then, after their threat to block the highway, the supply was resumed.
Residents of the Eastern intra-city district of Novorossiysk have been protesting against the construction of a marl (calcareous clay) quarry since 2010. The planning quarry is at the distance of 30 meters from four apartment houses in Tsemzavod “Proletary” Street, and 15 meters off No. 212 in the same street.
Yuri Ananiev, the chairman of the district committee of the above street, who is also a member of the “Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus” (EcoWatch), said that local bureaucrats had expressed, when speaking on the phone, their dissatisfaction with the dissemination of information about the problems with the marl quarry.
On May 6, the gas supply was stopped to the above five houses located near the quarry in construction. Employees of the gas service referred to the order received from their bosses. In response, the residents stated their readiness to block the Federal Highway M4 "Don"; after that, at night, the gas supply was resumed, the “EcoWatch” reports.
