Armenia’s Govt approves bill on recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh
The Government of Armenia has approved the bill "On Recognition of Independence of the Republic of Artsakh by Armenia”, initiated by Zaruhi Postanjyan and Grant Bagratyan, the MPs of the National Assembly. The bill will now go to the Parliament for discussion.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that the proposal to approve the bill was put forward by Shavarsh Kocharyan, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia.
"The recognition of the independence of the Republic of Artsakh (also known as the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) was the result of the debates between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, considering the further development of the situation in the region, including the external factors," the "Interfax" quotes Mr Kocharyan as saying.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 3 the initiative of submitting the bill on recognition of the NKR’s independence belonged to Grant Bagratyan, an ex-Prime Minister of Armenia, now – an MP from the Armenian National Congress (ANC). On the same day, President Serzh Sargsyan announced his intention to recognize the independence of the NKR, if the hostilities in the conflict zone erupt into widespread ones.
