Judicial investigation into case against Karpyuk and Klykh completed

The judge has scheduled for May 4 the pleadings in the case against Ukrainian citizens Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh. This was reported by advocate Dokka Itslaev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that during the court hearing held on April 18, the defence challenged the judge chairing the trial in the case at the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic. The challenge was dismissed.

Dokka Itslaev has reported that the defence filed a motion to read out in the presence of the jury a letter written by the commander of the military unit, which soldiers were killed in Chechnya in January 1995. According to the advocate, the judge has dismissed the defence motion.

Besides, at the advocates' request, the Supreme Court received from Crimea the verdict pronounced in 2000 against Alexander Malofeev, the principal prosecution witness, who was sentenced to five years of imprisonment for theft.

Let us remind you that the case against Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh is being considered with the participation of the jury since October 27, 2015. The defendants are charged with involvement in the murders of at least 30 soldiers and officers in the course of the first Chechen war campaign. Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh deny their involvement in the conflict in Chechnya and complain about torture.
