Woman accused of girl's death in Sochi water park denies guilt

Sochi has launched a trial of the death of a three-year girl who drowned in the water park "Mountain Beach" on July 19, 2015. The female-employee, who is charged under the case, has declared that the responsibility for the safe rest in the water park was on the resort managers, who have disappeared.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the girl perished on July 19, 2015, while bathing in the water park located in the village of Esto-Sadok. A criminal case was opened on the accident under Part 2, Article 238, of the Russian Criminal Code (provision of services failing to meet the requirement of consumers' safety of life and health, which caused human death by negligence).

The charge has been brought against the 27-year-old Leya Khamitova, who worked since December 24, 2014, as an operating manager in the non-profit autonomous organization (NPAO) "Krasnaya Polyana", which owns the water park "Mountain Beach". The defendant is under threat of up to 6 years in prison; she is now under house arrest.

She explained that she had no relation to recruitment of security employees; this was done by her top managers – citizens of Turkey.

Khamitova said at the court session that she deeply grieves for the dead child, and is under stress after the tragedy, but disagrees with the charges, as she had never been responsible for security matters.

Let us note here that according to the indictment, Khamitova "actually carried out the management over the water park." According to the prosecutors, she acted intentionally, "with the aim of extracting financial benefits for her employer."
