Complaint on Dadaev's torture lodged to ECtHR

Lawyers of the Inter-Regional Public Organization "Committee for the Prevention of Torture" (CPT) have sent to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) a complaint against unlawful physical violence against Zaur Dadaev, a figurant in Boris Nemtsov's murder case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 1, 2015, Zaur Dadaev refused from his initial testimonies in Nemtsov's murder case and said that he had given them under torture. The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) refused to open a case on torture. On August 27, 2015, the Basmanny Court of Moscow found the refusal legitimate, but Dadaev's defence appealed against the judgement; and on October 19, 2015, the Moscow City Court dismissed the appeal.

The lawyers of the CPT explain the complaint to the ECtHR by the fact that there are grounds to believe that illegal physical abuse had been applied to Dadaev.

"This is confirmed by testimonies of witnesses who saw him healthy before the detention, by medical records, and by the report of the Public Oversight Commission (POC)," says the website of the CPT.

According to the CPT, investigators had also violated Dadaev's right to qualified legal assistance, when they did not allow the advocate Evgeny Gubin to meet Dadaev.
