Court in Armenia arrests activist Vardges Gaspari

Vardges Gaspari, a supporter of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), is accused of insulting a policeman and a judge, as well as of hampering court sessions.

His arrest warrant was issued by the first-instance court of general jurisdiction of the administrative district Shengavit on February 19, the activist's advocate David Gyurjyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

However, according to his story, neither he nor his client has received the court judgement on Gaspari's arrest.

"Gaspari was not present at the court session. Policemen took him out of his apartment to the police station," said the advocate, adding that he would appeal against the arrest judgement.

Mr Gyurjyan has not specified the case, under which his client was arrested. But on February 3, according to Gaspari, the Special Investigating Service initiated a criminal case against him – he is accused of hampering the work of the election commission and the process of voting at the referendum on December 6, 2015.
