Karpov states his non-involvement in abduction of Savchenko
Today, Pavel Karpov, a former employee of the Russian Presidential Administration and now a member of the Public Chamber of Moscow, has refuted his acquaintance with the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko. According to his version, he did not take Savchenko to Russia.
Savchenko's case is heard at the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region of Russia since September 22, 2015. The investigators believe that she corrected the artillery fire, and with the help thereof Ukrainian militaries attacked the settlement of Metallist in Donbas on June 17, 2014, and killed two journalists of the VGTRK (All-Russian TV and Radio Company).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the February 1 court session Nadezhda Savchenko told about the events of June 23, 2014, when she was, according to her story, forcibly taken from captivity in Lugansk. Savchenko asserts that the driver of the car in which she was taken to Russia was a political consultant Pavel Karpov, an assistant to Russian President's aide Vladislav Surkov.
Today, Pavel Karpov has denied his involvement in the operation of deporting Savchenko from Lugansk to Russia.
"I've seen her a thousand times on TV, but not a single time personally, with my own eyes. Therefore, her statement is either an error, or a fiction, or a deliberate attempt to mislead the court," said Pavel Karpov.
"I'm at a loss to say now what exactly I was doing on that day, June 23, but according to my feelings, I wasn't in Lugansk at that period," the "Kommersant" quotes Pavel Karpov as saying.
