SC mitigates sentence to four convicts for terror act in Pyatigorsk
By decision of the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia, the prison terms of Shamil Gazimagomedov, Magomed Ibragimov, Ramazan Khalizov and Vladimir Khalizov were reduced by two months, said the advocate Rustam Yunusov. The SC upheld the life imprisonment for convicted Murad Ataev and Shamil Abdulazizov.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 14, 2015, the North-Caucasian District Military Court sentenced six defendants in the case about the terror committed in front of the GIBDD (traffic police) building in Pyatigorsk in 2013. Two defendants, Ataev and Abdulazizov, were sentenced to life imprisonment; Ramazan Khalizov was sentenced to 23 years, Magomed Ibragimov – to 19 years, Vladimir Khalizov – to 18 years, and Shamil Gazimagomedov – to 17 years in prison, accordingly.
On December 27, 2013, a car exploded not far from the GIBDD building in Pyatigorsk, killing three bystanders. The explosion was recognized as a terror act. According to investigators, it was organized by Tural Ataev, the leader of the militants' grouping known as "Khasavyurt Sector" (he was killed on March 25, 2014, during a special operation in the Dagestani village of Pervomaiskoye).
"Overall, the verdict was upheld. The changes affected only the charges under two articles of the Russian Criminal Code, which were imputed to several figurants in the case. Thus, from the charges under articles of 'banditry' and 'terror act', they removed the wording 'as part of an armed group of persons," said Rustam Yunusov.
