Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya checks data on extortions from state servants

The regional State Labour Inspectorate is involves in checking information about systematic deductions from salaries of employees of the social protection system of the Shelkovskaya District of Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives of employees of the State Fiscal Institution "Complex Social Services Centre" of the Shelkovskaya District complained about regular exactions of parts of their salaries. According to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", up to 70% of social workers' salaries are withheld.

As noted by the Prosecutor's Office in Chechnya, the material of the "Caucasian Knot" is now checked by prosecutors; moreover, it is also noted that "the course of the check is under personal control of the Republic's Public Prosecutor."

The residents of Chechnya, earlier interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", stated that withholdings are made from salaries of doctors, teachers and policemen, while final recipients of the raised funds are unknown. In their turn, officials said that donations from salaries of state employees are made on the voluntary basis.
