In Rostov-on-Don, Court pronounces sentence on charge of attempt to join IS

The North-Caucasian Military Court has sentenced Visit Tazbaev, a Russian citizen, detained in Sochi, to two years of imprisonment for his intention to join militants of the "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia.

In 2015, Visit Tazbaev, born in 1993, was detained by FSB agents during the border control at the Sochi airport while he was passing the registration to the flight Sochi-Istanbul.

According to investigators, the young man was a follower of Wahhabism, and he planned to take part in the combat actions in Syria in the ranks of the IS.

"The defendant was found guilty of attempted participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 1 of Article 30 and Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and he was sentenced to two years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony," states today an official from the PR unit of the FSB Department for the Krasnodar Territory as quoted by the "Interfax-South".

According to the FSB Department for the Krasnodar Territory, in the course of the investigation, the defendant has made a confession, repented of his actions, and filed a motion for a special procedure of the trial, the "TASS" reports.
