Adviser to leader of "Musavat" Party sings recognizance not to leave

In the Azerbaijani town of Siyazan, an adviser to the leader of the oppositional "Musavat" Party is released on recognizance not to leave several hours after his detention by the police.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 13, in Siyazan, clashes occurred between the police and participants of the protest action against rising prices and unemployment. The police used tear gas and rubber bullets against the protestors. The police have suspected the "Musavat" Party of organizing unsanctioned protest actions.

On January 16, Mardan Mekhti, an advisor to the leader of the "Musavat" Party, was detained by the Siyazan District Police Department, and at night of January 17, he was released. No charges were filed against him; however, he had to sign recognizance not to leave the country, the "Contact.az" reports.

On January 17, Fakhraddin Abbas, the leader of the Sumgait City Branch of the "Musavat" Party, was also summoned to the police. He was released after the warning, the edition reports.

Mardan Mekhti was detained in connection with the protest actions in Siyazan, the "Haqqin.az" reports.
