Relatives of Avetisyan family review their decision to boycott trial in Permyakov's case

After the meeting with their advocates, relatives of the Avetisyan family members shot and killed in Gyumri, have abandoned their plan to boycott the trial in the Permyakov's case in the territory of the 102nd Russian military base. Meanwhile, at the next meeting, they plan to file a motion to move the trial to the court of general jurisdiction of the Shirak Region of Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the relatives of the Avetisyan family members and their advocates oppose the decision to hold the trial in the Permyakov's case at the military base. They believe that the location deprives the trial the due transparency. Today, the relatives of the Avetisyan family members have come to the protest action held in Gyumri with the demand to move the trial from the territory of the military base and confirmed their earlier plan to boycott the trial unless their demand is fulfilled.

Lusine Saakyan, Yervand Varosyan, and Yerem Sarkisyan, advocates for the successors of the Avetisyan family members, have met the participants of the protest action. After the discussions, they have come to the opinion that the boycott of the trial will not help to make the trial more transparent, since in accordance with the law, the court may hold a hearing even without presence of successors of deceased persons.

Yerem Sarkisyan has noted that the holding of the court hearings at the court of general jurisdiction of the Shirak Region and not at the territory of the 102nd Russian military base is a principle issue for the successors of the Avetisyan family members, "both from legal and moral points of view."

On January 18, the advocates of the successors of the Avetisyan family members will present a motion to move the trial to the court of general jurisdiction of the Shirak Region. According to Yerem Sarkisyan, when the court pronounces the decision, the relatives of the Avetisyan family members will decide whether they should continue their participation in the trial.
