Tlyarata-Makhachkala Highway opened
The motor traffic on the section Tlyarata-Makhachkala in Dagestan is completely reopened; however, the risk of avalanches in the mountains is still present, the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 8, a snow avalanche went down and caused a closure of the above highway section, cutting about 16,000 residents in 55 dwelling settlement from the outside world. This afternoon, traffic was partially reopened.
In the evening, free motor traffic was reopened in both directions, Tamila Gazimagomedova, the head of the press service of the Dagestani MfE, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Measures to broaden the road continue," she added.
The traffic restoration is confirmed by local residents. According to their story, Dagestan mobile operators have warned the population about the persisting danger of avalanches.
