Parties in trial of Aliev's murder are unhappy with refusal of additional investigation

Today, at the preliminary session on the murder of Azerbaijani journalist Rasim Aliev, the aggrieved party has asked the court to return the case to the prosecutor's office; as well as to attract the doctors, who treated the journalist, as witnesses. The court rejected the first petition and left the second one without consideration. The trial will continue on January 12.

Rasim Aliev was beaten up on August 8, 2015, and died on the following day in hospital. Six persons are figuring in his death case, including the football player Djavid Guseinov. On December 22, 2015, the case against all of them, except Guseinov, was sent to the court. The latter's case will be considered separately.

The aggrieved party believes that the preliminary inquiry was held with violations of the law, Fariz Namazly, the advocate of the parents of the late journalist, said leaving the courthouse.

"In particular, the doctors' negligence has not been investigated. We ask why Rasim's surgery was made late, eight or nine hours after he was taken to the City Clinical Centre," he has explained.

According to Namazly, the aggrieved party is dissatisfied with the fact that the court has refused to return the case for additional investigation, and postponed the consideration of the second petition.

Representatives of the defendants were also dissatisfied with the results of the preliminary session, said Bakhtiyar Gadjiev, an advocate, who is defending Samir Mustafaev, at the exit from the courthouse.
