Resident of Chechnya accused of taking part in Syrian warfare
The Shali City Court of Chechnya has received the criminal case of Islam Temirsultanov, a resident of the Kurchaloy District. According to investigators, he participated in the warfare in Syria as a member of one of the illegal armed formations (IAFs).
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt from an employee of the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the ICRF that the criminal case against the above resident of the village of Mairtup arrived in the court on December 29.
"The guilt of the defendant of participating in an IAF in the territory of Syria has been proved. Temirsultanov has actively cooperated with investigators and provided information about other IAF members acting in the territory of Syria. He concluded a pre-trial agreement with the investigation; and it will be taken into account in defining his punishment," the source said.
According to investigators, in late 2014, Temirsultanov went to Syria to take part in the warfare for the anti-governmental forces, and 6 months later he returned to Chechnya, where he was detained by power agents.
Temirsultanov's relatives hope for a fair verdict given his repentance.
