NAC reports murder of militant in Gunib District
In the Gunib District of Dagestan, where a special operation is underway, a man, who opened fire on power agents, was shot dead. He was pre-identified as Shamil Nurmagomedov, the leader of the "Sogratl" militant grouping, said the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting 7:30 a.m. Moscow time on December 27, the administrative Gunib District is under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. The shootout occurred five kilometres northwest of the village of Batsada. Power agents tried to detain a man, but he opened fire.
The casualty was pre-identified as Shamil Nurmagomedov, born in 1975, who was on the federal wanted list.
According to power agents, he was in command of the "Sogratl" grouping of militants and was involved in murders of civilians and the attack on the police convoy in May 2014, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
The NAC has added that there are no victims among law enforcers and local residents.
