Ecological Council of Sochi reports on negative effects of Olympics

In Sochi, activists of the Public Ecological Council have discussed the problems remaining after the Winter Olympic Games. According to the activists, the city has suffered from large-scale construction of various facilities, inefficient garbage collection, and imported pests.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that on December 15, the administration of the Central District of Sochi held a meeting reporting the results of 2015. The activity results were summarized by Vladimir Ostapuk, Chairman of the Public Ecological Council.

According to him, the Ecological Council has prepared the appeals to the government with the calculated estimates of the cost of pest control.

The speaker has noted that this year, the Ecological Council paid special attention to the agriculture and, in particular, to the work on its restoration in the Krasnodar Territory and the cultivation of environmentally friendly products. According to Vladimir Ostapuk, "there is progress, but not great, since a lot of fertile soils are occupied by commercial buildings."

Professor Anatoly Kudakin, Doctor of Biological Sciences, has announced the need to develop the concept of environmental safety of the resort, which is "on the verge of ecological disaster inherited from the Olympic Games."

Residents of the village of Mirny have also reported that their houses permanently suffer from flooding because of the constructed Olympic facilities.
