Law enforcers refuse to report on fate of detainees, Nardaran residents assert

Residents of the village of Nardaran claim their failure to obtain the information about the number and the fate of the people detained during the special operation conducted in the village.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the situation in Nardaran remains tense since November 26, when in the course of the special operation, law enforcers detained 14 persons, including Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity". The above detentions provoked the unrest, in which seven persons were killed. On December 11, the law enforcers prevented the holding of a religious ceremony in the village of Nardaran. They reported on seizure of weapons from a local resident and on discovery in the street of a plastic bag with a submachine gun inside it.

Natiq Kerimov, one of the local elders, has found that difficult to mention the number of the detainees. However, according to him, "their number exceeds one dozen people", and the law enforcement bodies "do not provide any information about the fate of the detainees to their family members."

Natiq Kerimov has also reported that the police still control all the entrances to the village of Nardaran, and the streets of the village are controlled by law enforcement patrols. In particular, the reinforced police units are on duty near local mosques.

Since December 8, the electricity supply to Nardaran is partially resumed.

Let us remind you that after the special operation carried out in Nardaran, the law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan have started to massively detain members of the "Muslim Unity", and the authorities have adopted the Law "On combating religious extremism", regulating the procedures for conducting special operations. In particular, the law stipulates the suspension of supply of utilities and telecommunication services in the areas of special operations.
