In Georgia, Court takes in custody four defendants accused of involvement in IS
The Tbilisi City Court has pronounced a decision to take into custody four persons detained on the charge of involvement in the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 29, Georgian law enforcers detained residents of the Ozurgeti District (Guria region), three of whom lived in the village of Nasakirali, and one in the village of Khelvachauri. According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the law enforcers seized from the detainees several firearms, ammunition, literature, and a flag of the "Islamic State" (IS).
On December 1, the Tbilisi City Court pronounced a secret status of the case. This means that the names of the suspects will not be disclosed until further decision of the judge, reports the press service of the Tbilisi City Court.
On the same day, the court session considered the issue of pre-trial restriction measure against the detainees. The defence demanded to pronounce the pre-trial restriction measure in a form of a bail; however, the judge dismissed the defence request, the "Georgia-Online" reports.
According to political analyst Mamuka Areshidze, "in one or another period of time, more than 200 natives of Georgia went to take part in combat actions in Syria, and they fought for different armed groupings."
Meanwhile, the political analyst believes that Western Georgia faces no danger of dissemination of radical movements, since these regions "have no preachers who could actively promote radical views."
